The company

What it does

Netflix distributes films, series, live programming and games through a global subscription service, with advertising and consumer products also contributing to the business. It commissions and produces content in multiple markets and licenses titles from outside studios.

Across markets

Netflix’s 2025 US economic-impact report estimates more than $125 billion in gross value added from its production and distribution activity between 2020 and 2024. The estimate includes direct spending and modeled indirect and induced effects; Netflix says Deloitte was engaged in relation to the analysis. It measures economic activity associated with the company’s spending, not the value of programmes to viewers or a net gain to the US economy. Netflix’s 2025 Form 10-K reports $45.2 billion in streaming revenue, with $18.5 billion from the United States and the remainder from international markets.

What the record tells us

TIME named Netflix in its 2021, 2022 and 2025 company lists, and Fortune placed it in its 2025 reputation ranking. That record combines editorial selection and a survey-based ranking. The production-spending estimate offers a concrete way to discuss local economic ties, but it should not be mistaken for an independent assessment of Netflix’s cultural effect or the quality of its work.
