The company

What it does

BlackRock manages investments for institutional and retail clients and sells financial technology and subscription services. Its products cover equities, fixed income, cash management, multi-asset portfolios and private markets.

Across markets

The company’s 2025 filing reports about 24,900 employees in more than 30 countries and clients in more than 100. It managed $3.9 trillion for pension plans at year end, including plans for corporations, governments and unions. Investment management gives BlackRock a role in how client savings enter capital markets; those assets remain tied to client mandates and investment outcomes. Proxy votes are another point of influence. Morningstar’s review of 50 US asset managers found that BlackRock supported 6.4% of shareholder resolutions on average during the 2023–25 proxy years, and 6.6% in 2025, within the study’s defined universe of US large- and mid-cap companies. The figures describe voting, not the effects of those votes on companies or pensioners.

What the record tells us

TIME included BlackRock in its 2024 and 2025 TIME100 Companies lists. Those are editorial selections, not judged awards. Fortune’s 2025 Most Admired Companies All-Stars page lists BlackRock at #22, but that programme remains under review in this project. Forbes Global 2000 rank #191 is a company-size measure and earns no recognition points. The evidence supports two provisional TIME list placements; BlackRock’s final total and GCEIP position remain pending the same programme and identity checks applied to every company.
