The company

What it does

Amazon is a US-based technology and retail company. Its businesses include online stores, third-party seller services, subscriptions, advertising, logistics and Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Across markets

Amazon reported 2025 net sales of $716.9 billion, including $128.7 billion from AWS, and about 1.576 million full- and part-time employees at year end. Its marketplace and logistics network connects consumers, sellers and delivery workers; AWS supplies computing infrastructure to businesses and public organizations. The scale brings environmental costs too. Amazon’s 2024 sustainability report puts its total greenhouse-gas footprint at 68.25 million metric tons of CO₂-equivalent, up 6% from 2023, while carbon intensity per dollar of merchandise sales fell to 72.6 grams. These are company-reported figures with different denominators: lower intensity did not mean lower total emissions.

What the record tells us

TIME included Amazon in its 2025 TIME100 Companies list, an editorial selection. Fortune ranked it No. 3 in the 2025 World’s Most Admired Companies All-Stars survey. That reputation ranking remains under programme review for this project and contributes no provisional points at present. Amazon’s WCRC Most Powerful Brands result is a brand-level placement from 2026, outside the 2001–2025 scoring window. The current slate therefore records one provisional TIME list placement, not a final award total or GCEIP rank.
