GCEIP 500 Company profile
Airbnb, Inc.
Airbnb counted 533 million “Nights and Seats Booked” in 2025. The measure combines accommodation nights with seats for experiences and services, so it describes platform transactions rather than individual trips.
The company
What it does
Airbnb operates an online marketplace for short-term stays, experiences and services. Its model connects guests and hosts, with Airbnb handling discovery, booking and payments while most accommodation is supplied by third-party hosts.
Across markets
Airbnb reported 533 million Nights and Seats Booked in 2025, up 8% from 2024, and $12.2 billion in revenue. Its 10-K says the marketplace operates in more than 220 countries and regions, with 61% of revenue generated from listings outside the United States. The company also reported more than five million hosts and over 2.5 billion guest arrivals since it began. These measures show the size of a network that can bring visitor spending to places with limited hotel supply, while the transaction count is not a count of unique guests or stays. The effects on housing depend on where and how hosts operate. A peer-reviewed study of Berlin’s 2016 rules estimated that each additional commercial Airbnb listing displaced 0.23–0.37 long-term rental units within the same city block; that result concerns commercial listings in one city and should not be generalized to every host or market. Separately, TIME reported that Airbnb’s nonprofit Airbnb.org coordinated temporary accommodation for more than 20,000 Afghan refugees, with a later offer to house up to 100,000 people displaced by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. That relief work is associated with the company but operated through its nonprofit and host network, not its ordinary paid booking business.

What the record tells us
TIME placed Airbnb on its TIME100 Most Influential Companies lists in 2022 and 2024. The 2022 profile covered Airbnb.org’s refugee-housing effort; the 2024 profile examined the platform’s expansion and debate over short-term rentals in housing markets. These are editorial list placements, not judged awards, and each is one provisional publisher-list point under the current working rules. WCRC ranked the Airbnb brand No. 91 in its 2026 World’s Most Powerful 100 Brands list. That brand result is linked here as the company’s WCRC source, but it falls outside the 2001–2025 edition and earns no point. The records explain why Airbnb is on the research slate; they do not establish a final count or GCEIP rank.
